Clip and publish video from an AI agent
ShortsHero speaks the Model Context Protocol, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or n8n can import a video, watch it being cut into shorts and hand you the finished clips — without you leaving the conversation. Paste one URL and sign in; there is no key to copy and nothing to configure.
Endpoint
https://shortshero.com/api/mcp
Streamable HTTP · sign-in handled in your browser, or Authorization: Bearer <key> for clients that cannot open one.
Connect an agent
Pick your client. Everything below talks to the same endpoint.
- Open claude.ai → Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- Paste the URL below. Sign in now and Register automatically both show as “Detected” — leave them alone and press Add.
- Press Connect, sign in to ShortsHero, and approve the access you are shown. The tools appear in every chat.
https://shortshero.com/api/mcpThen just ask
Talk to your assistant normally — it picks the tools itself.
- “Turn this into shorts: https://youtube.com/watch?v=… — then tell me when it's done.”
- “How many credits do I have left?”
- “List my last five projects and which ones finished.”
- “Show me the clips from my newest project with their hooks.”
What it can do
6 tools. This list is generated from the server itself, so it is always what the endpoint actually serves.
create_project_from_urlCreate a project from a video URLImport a video from a URL (YouTube and other supported sites) and generate short vertical clips from it. Returns a projectId immediately; the work runs in the background and takes several minutes. Costs one upload credit. Caption style, hook title and B-roll always come from the account's own settings at shortshero.com/dashboard/settings — they are not arguments here. Omit the optional arguments below unless the user asked for something specific for THIS import; each one you omit is taken from those same settings, and each one you send overrides them.
get_projectGet a project and its clipsEverything about one project: title, status and progress, source URL, duration, the settings it was made with (language, aspect ratio, caption style, subtitles, hook title, B-roll), share link if public, and every clip with its title, hook text, description, why it was picked, 0-100 score and video URLs, best score first. Also the call to poll while an import started with create_project_from_url is running.
list_projectsList projectsThe account's most recent projects, newest first.
list_clipsList a project's clipsThe short clips generated from a project in timeline order, each with its title, hook text, description, why it was picked, 0-100 score, timings, export status and video URLs. Clips appear as they finish, so an in-progress project may return fewer than the final count.
get_transcriptGet a project's transcriptThe plain-text transcript of a project's source video. Long videos are truncated to maxChars; the result says when that happened and how long the full transcript is.
get_accountGet account and creditsThe signed-in account's plan and remaining upload/export credits.
If something goes wrong
Do I need an API key?
Not for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Claude Desktop — they sign you in through your browser and handle the credential themselves. A key is only for clients with no browser to sign in from, like n8n, curl or a cron job.
Claude says “No sign-in” instead of “Detected”.
It is reading the wrong address. Check the URL ends in /api/mcp — the /mcp page you are reading now is documentation, not the endpoint.
It connected, but no tools appear.
Claude Desktop only reads its config at startup — quit it completely and reopen it, since reloading the window is not enough. In Cursor, refresh the server from Settings → MCP.
How do I disconnect it?
Settings → API keys & connections, then remove the row. Connected apps and hand-made keys live in the same list, and removing either cuts access instantly.
Does an agent spend my credits?
Yes — it acts as you. Creating a project costs one upload credit and shows up in your dashboard like any other. Everything else only reads.
Worth knowing
- Importing is asynchronous. Creating a project returns immediately and the work continues in the background — a long video takes several minutes. Tell your assistant to poll rather than wait.
- A connection acts as you. Anything it does spends your credits and appears in your dashboard. Connected apps and hand-made keys sit in one list in settings — removing either one cuts access instantly.
